I believe this might be V-J Day in Tokyo Harbor, and NOT D-Day. The Iowa class battleships did not serve in the Atlantic and were not present at D-Day. In fact they were deeply involved with the Japanese Navy then in the battle of the Philippine Sea. Furthermore, the aircraft assembled above appear to be the standard complement of SB2C Helldivers and F6F Hellcats common the the Essex class Fleet carriers which all served in the Pacific theater. Nonetheless, an awe inspiring photo . . . .
