I have always been impressed with the female samurai's secondary weapons: the painted acrylic nails. They were frequetly underestimated by their enemies and often were used in the feared "reaping testicle strike" during hand to hand combat.

It is an extremely precise ukiyo-e painting.

I didn't know they could take color photographs back when Japan was still under the shogunate system.

This is Michiko Yakasura from a small village near Kashuni Falls on the Shiretoko Peninsula of Island of Hokkaido in Northern Japan. When her Samurai brother was savagely murdered under mysterious circumstances by imperial forces she vowed to avenge his memory by taking up his sword. She practiced day and night building up enough skill to take on the assassins.

Anyone know who she is or what this is from?

Beautiful impish little face. Perhaps she is not unused to the Samurai sword, as she appears to show a wound cut on her chin.
