Okay..makes sense...I'll buy it ! For many years have driven past miles and miles of rice fields in all stages of cultivation, from field prep to harvest, but in country that is flat as a board in every direction as far as the human eye can see.. all the field work done with big machines...almost kinda embarrasses me to realize how little I know about how most folks have done it for most of human history..thanks..

Above the workers in the picture you can see bundles of rice shoots waiting to be planted. they are walking backwards and putting the plants a few inches apart, which leaves the water looking greenish (in front of and below them, where they have already planted the rice crop). The paddy to the right of them and at the lower edge of the picture are also going to be planted, you can see the bundles of rice plants waiting for the workers to distribute them evenly in the paddies.

...looked as closely as I could when I first saw this, trying to tell which it was..but am just too ignorant about this kind of rice cropping to we plant it from airplanes.. the women seem to be working toward the camera.. the water behind them seems kinda turbid..and those could be shocks of harvested rice..? Quien sabe ?
