YLyssa, you 'believe' the propaganda about mother Theresa, who was in fact a fraud. A few months after her death the nuns who handled the accounts of the mother Theresa charity stated that very little of the money was spent on the needy in India; that there were US$-millions in the charity's bank account; that Theresa accepted large donations from gangsters; that Theresa stayed in expensive hotels when she went overseas, instead of staying at local nunneries or in the houses of nuns. She was an out-and-out fraudster and hypocrite!

Well she may have lost everything and be in a bad situation. Anybody who is not sensitve to that will be in the same one day. She looks as though she uses the money to feed herself and buy clothes which is what I would give it to her for. There are no proper accomodations for the desolate and we are not welcoming of the elderly to work. Because of bad laws and greed this occurs. So any of you who cannot see in pure light will be without your sunglasses soon.

she's too old to work, stytic you insensitive shit.

Maybe she is destitute and hungry. I'm guessing no one is stopping because they got her figured as a fraud but who knows? I've seen guys here with "will work for food" signs nicely dressed and chatting on mobile phones. Go figure.

Mother Theresa. From what I understand, very strict rules, strict woman, yet her compassion to find and help the truly needy was literally off the chart. The world needs another, as she recently passed on. Truly a saint of the desperately destitute.

In some of the bigger cities in the US you'll see guys standing on corners with signs "will work for food" - but if you offer to hire them they don't really want to work, they get more money from handouts than anyone would be willing to pay them per hour. It is a shame because it seems most of those guys use the money to buy alcohol or drugs.

People who are really starving don't sit around on the sidewalk all day with their hands out asking for money. There is always work to be done, and starvation is a really good motivator to get people to work. Even without the work, I can't imagine many people would actually let another person starve to death if they had the means to stop it -- on the other hand, I've never seen a professional beggar asking for food.

Wow, milek-tylek, I really learned a lot from what you wrote. Thanks for sharing what you know. So, I wonder if anybody is helping the people who are truly starving alone...

here in poland there are lots of them, really. the beggars are everywhere but as someone said before. try to buy them some food. a sandwich maybe. few days ago i was buying groceries fore myself. little girl asked me on my way home if i give her some money. i thought: this time i will give it a try and said to her: ok. you are hungry, yes? she noded. so i asked. what would you like to eat? i have lots of food. i can make you a sandwich if you wait. just say what do you like? you know what she replayed? i dont want your food, i want money! i smiled... said no way. either you're hungry or just trying to get some money. your choice. she called me names a bit and went away... again, its almost everytime when you ask a beggar do you want food or money, he will say money... its just bussiness these days. the real beggars starve alone, they're not on the streets where we can see them...

i bought that bitch the pizza and she still didn't put out.

I will give you that, Woot2. You are correct, in that no two human conditions will ever be identical. Still, I am grateful that I remain unjaded and would at least be inclined to offer some food to the beggar, just in case she/he is truly hungry.

Alternatively, as the picture suggests, this woman may indeed be destitute with no means of support and no hope of gainful employment. I find it impossible to condemn either party in this picture based on the picture alone. But, there seems to be no shortage of people eager to pass judgment without any facts.

We got tons of beggars here in Denmark, all are from hungary, romania, ukraine and the like. They walk around with a laminated picture with a poor kid on it, along with a text in poorly written danish that sais they can't pay for her treatment. They don't want any food, they just want money. They also steal the clothes that were intended for red cross from the the recycle containers, and then they sell them on markets afterwards, and as a new thing they fake a car problem and when drivers pull over to help them, they try to either steal from their cars or sell them all kinds of crap. We should leave the european union, get our own bordercontrol working again and then kick them out of the country.

yeah, it's really sad that these people are quite often not poor and simply cheat on our sympathy. I've heard stories about expensive cars picking them up, or beggars who curse people who give them food. it's better to give money to some charity organisation.

While walking home from work one evening a few years ago, I saw a woman that refused the charitable donation of a couple of slices of pizza, which another woman had bought when she noticed the homeless woman seemed so sad and hungry (I overheard the woman trying to do the right thing actually say that as she tried to present her gift to the panhandler) because it wasn't vegetarian pizza. That's when I realized that at least in my town, beggars CAN be choosers... and that some are assholes about it, too. After all, someone spent their own, hard earned money to buy that food. Even if the haughty tramp didn't want to eat meat, she could have picked it out of her food, or she could have traded the slices of pizza for food which didn't have flesh on it.

Very true sdgvfsdfv! Many beggars in the West these days are professional and make a handsome living by it, which has been proven. And the 'real' poverty stricken do not have the gall to plead poverty and beg in public places. Instead they quietly starve. So don't give your misaligned sympathies to street beggars. The 'real' needy have to be searched for, and 'that' requires work!

really needy minority of beggars aside, they are not hungry, they just made profession from begging. pity works for them, so they will make themselves look hungry and sick and poor, they will cry out loud for food, but try to give them food and they will spit you in the eye. they want money. it is not about necessity, but about style of life. i will never support them. they are criminals, because of their pretense people get distrustful and really needy ones are ignored.

Damn! Time is running out on learning how to be human. Personally, I think it would be better to go hungry for a few hours and let the beggar eat. And yes, we actually ARE our brothers' keepers, after all - just in case there is any doubt.
