Patito, nothing would give me more pleasure than to see the damage reversed, and to see the US (it's unfortunate that there isn't a one word term for US residents other than "American" it does cause problems) become a world leader for peace and progress. But I don't see how the 10 trillion federal debt, 50 trillion unfunded liabilities, the health, education, crime crises, and the collapse of banks can be overcome without a long depression. But I think that it's a mistake to write it off to "bumbling incompetents." The people who caused these crises did so intentionally to produce chaos so that what is left of government can be privatized. Impeachment would be a good start in reparing the damage and reasserting the rule of law, but that's not going to happen. The criminals are going to get off scot free. Finally, I must say that on every visit to the US, I have met mostly good kind generous people.

Well, hell, Joe ! You're an American too ! Just like Mexicans and Guatamaltecos and Cubans and everybody else from the Yukon all the way to Patagonia. We're all Americans here ! Now about your points: I agree that Canadians tend to be a good bit less violent than are some of us down here in the U.S...in fact,if the average person on earth was as sensible and decent as the average Canadain, the world would be a much more sane and peaceful place. However, let me assure you that things down here aren't nearly as bad as you appear to believe they are. This country is still a 'work in progress,' and we're a long way from collapsing. It's true that a lot of us are fat, spoiled and used to consuming more than our share of the world's resources, but our best and brightest are aware of those problems, and we're working hard to try to re-direct the enormous energy and potential of what is still a great and prosperous nation. It's human nature to enjoy seeing the mighty brought low, and some of our leaders have swaggered around pretty arrogantly and tarnished our image and our good name in the world, but I hope and believe that we're about to fix that and start cleaning up the mess they've made. So don't give up on us, Joe, and don't judge us all by the crew of bumbling incompetents that have embarrased us for the past seven years.

I am a Canadian. And in many ways Canada is a paradise especially in comparison to the US. However, in the last 20 years or so, and especially since FTA and MAFTA, we have been been fortunate to have had politicians (Mulroney, Harper)whose philosophy resembles Bush's and McSame's, and who have done their best to diminish the best of Canada and import the worst of the US. That said, we are nowhere near to eliminating rights and freedoms as has happened south of us, nor have we manufactured a crippling national debt, nor are we as monkey-trapped in the middle east despite Harper's efforts. But the real advantage we have is that IMHO, the citizens of Canada know very much more history than our neighbors, and we are a much less violent society. That makes us more suspicious of people who want to wage war. Not 1 in 10 Canadians believed that Saddam had WMDs, nor that there was an Al Qaeda connection, and far more of us understand that the invasion of Iraq and of Afghanistan were illegal under International law, which means under US law. Your impending collapse will drag the entire world into a deep recession, but I think that Canadians are going to feel a lot less pain than Americans.

Pray tell us, in what blessed earthly paradise are you so fortunate as to dwell , Joe ?

Think again. This is American life under the Dubya administration. If you like what you're seeing, vote for McSame, and you'll get another 4 years of Bush . . . maybe 8 if you're lucky. I am soooooo thankful that I am not an American!

"The Negative Turd Gang" has perhaps seen this this picture enough times. P.S. I don't belong to that "Gang"; I hardly ever vote negative for ANYthing, I'm only trying to offer an explanation for the negative votes.
