This is called the Grand Prismatic Spring..the colors around the edges are the result of bacteria that are able to live in the water depsite its scalding temperature of over 150 degree F....it's located in Yellowstone National Park in the Northwestern USA, which includes parts of three states: Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho...The springs were named for the Prisma brothers, Luigi and Vito, who discovered it in 1839 while on their way to California to open the Bay Area's first Italian restaurant.
