It seems to be one of those recurring themes..I understand where the critics are coming from, and am not one to discourage compassion..but so much of the reaction to the corrida is based on an utter lack of understanding of it..it isn't a sport..it's a performance..Papa Hemingway once said that it was the only art in which the artist was in danger of death, which is maybe not completely true, if we consider trapeze and hi-wire aerialists artists...what I find disturbing is how naive a lot of urban people are about the routine cruelty and terror inflicted upon domestic animals in the commercial meat industry...the corrida is quite humane and civilized in comparison...it's okay to criticize it, but not with your mouth full of cheeseburger...

How many comments have you and I written on this subject? - We should've saved the previous ones so that we would not have to copy ourselves. To fmwlowe: It's one thing to be a Nature Lover and quite another to to be a realist.

You should probably consider changing the "tag" from "cow" to "bull", as both of the subjects in the photo are males of their respective species. Although, the bullfighter does look as though his status as "male" is about to be changed to the human equivalent of "steer". The major difference here is that as the loser in this battle, his manly parts will probably not be served up as the main course on someone's dinner plate at a nearby restaurant.

May we assume that you are a vegetarian, Fmwlowe, and that you don't eat meat, cheese, butter, ice cream or drink milk ?
