Closely related are the carnivorous jackalopes of West Texas that were at one time rather common, but rather rare currently. The carnivorous jackalope used to hunt in packs of 50 or 60 and would bring down buffalo on the plains. They could reduce a full sized buffalo to nothing but bones in a matter of minutes. They are also known as piranha jackalope. After the buffalo populations were greatly reduced in numbers, the jackalope packs were unable to support themselves and became quite scarce. Those jackalope that remain are solitary hunters.

Feral Argentine pampas rabbits decended from domestic European rabbits introduced by Spaniards in the 1700's. Adult males can weigh up to 60 lbs, they hunt in packs, and are the only carnivorous rabbits known to biological science.
