Still not allowed to go officially, but people do it by going to somewhere like Vera Cruz or Merida and flying over from there, and the Cuban customs people obligingly issue a visa but don't stamp your passport so there's no evidence of having been anywhere but Mexico. I was in Guantanamo a couple of times as a youngster, but no one could leave the base, so it doesn't really count as having been in Cuba since a US base, where ever it may be, is like a small American town. .

You're right patito - the revolution was a necessity. Baptiste was the pockets of the Mafia etc. After Fidel came into power, all Cubans were given free medical care and free education - things they didn't have before. Like you say, it has runs its course, and apparently Fidel's brother Raoul is loosening things. Canada has always maintained good relationships with Cuba; it's a popular place for us to go on winter holidays. Are you Americans still not allowed to travel there? A young girl I know just got back from a three-week trip there. There are still many places that are restricted to tourists. I have family members and friends who have gone to Cuba for winter holidays; they all say the foods is not very good - a lot of greasy pork, but the beaches are lovely..

To Travelin Wilbury (your latest alias) I want to preface this by saying if anyone does not agree feel free to say so, Plenty of people here like Patito, I like Patito, Connie likes Patito, Jacksparrow likes Patito, Poppy likes Patito, PictureGirl likes Patito, lilly likes Patito, Danis likes Patito, Coy likes Patito, James 1947 likes Patito, and many more. Notice those are all real user names of people who have posted pics here and commented here...unlike your name which changes every five seconds. I know you're not that other guy who yells and swears, because when he's around which is very often, all positive statements for Patito would be voted down and your lame comments would get voted up...but what bugs me about you is..I have always liked to post some pics that are out of the ordinary, something different here and there, a lot like some of Patito's pics. There are other people here who like to see funny animals or different kinds of people, or old cars, or houses or anything,,,but because of YOU people are being attacked as Patito, every time they feel like expressing themselves with something different. So as far as I'm concerened when you tell Patito nobody likes you or your pics ...speak for yourself...which is a joke because you don't use your regular posting name to speak... not ever..

Go diddle your goat, chump : )

No, Madam, that is not a Cuban cigar. That is a stick. However, you're right about us not being able to buy Cuban cigars in the US. In my humble ( okay...not so humble ) opinion the US embargo of Cuba was one of the dumbest foreign policy mistakes in a long history of US foreign policy mistakes. It served to unify the Cuban people against us, and drove the leadershp into the arms of the Soviets. The Cuban Revolution was an historical neccessity, but it has run its course and served its purpose. The Cuban people are now among the most well educated in Latin America and are ready to govern themselves, and Cuba is ready to take its place among the prosperous nations of the world. Here's an old Cuban joke. A newsman is interviewing a Cuban and asks "What are the three greatest triumphs of the Cuban Revolution?" The Cuban answers "Education, Sports, and Public Health." The newsman then asks "What are the three greatest failures of the Cuban Revolution?" The Cuban answers "Desayuno, almuerzo y cena." ( translation... breakfast, lunch and dinner )

Patito - Is this not a cuban cigar?!!!! I thought you Americans were not legally allowed to import those Cuban cigars, least you be accused of supporting the enemy's economy ;-)

Me too . Reminds me of that ol' dawg Cooter McAllister kept around his filling station down at Possum Gap that liked to smoke cigars. Name was Roscoe. He couldn't light 'em, of course..Cooter had to do that for him. But once he get 'em goin' he'd just sit there by the sodawater cooler and smoke them thangs right down to the butt end. It was a sight , and folks heard about it and would drive from way over in Arkansas just to see it.
