In the meantime - so you had got the time to read this -, I did some research and indeed so it is (China of course what johnk told, not reading or researching, which actually also true is). I have discovered that the location the railroad is of the steel mill in Baotou, China and that the photo is taken on October 26, 2007. And that’s not all: the locomotive is a steam 2-8-2 (whow !) !!! What this means I haven’t any idea. A locomotive looks impressive but its glamourous size is still inferior to a women’s.

In the double of this picture ( ! ) johnk has put the following comment about it (2008-10-12 at 03:07:52). I have copied it to here because it looks very interesting (note: the main picture & comment sheet about this subject is here): “The chinese still dump molten slag from steel mills. This looks like one of their operations since most of their mills still use steam trains.”

For those of you who don't know when you smelt metal in big of furnaces the matal is not generally pure and contians a whole bunch of impurities. These impurities get withdrawn from the smelter and are usually dumped like in the picture. I'm not sure what the impurities contain but they are essentially like lava :)

Yes of course ! So it is. I was quite forgotten it. I would not have remembered it immediately if you hadn’t given the right answer. It sounds silly, but yes that’s part of live. Thanks.
