You're welcome, Lilly! I had never seen a 'lighthouse' like this one, so wanted to find out more about it. ;-)

This is a vippefyr or bascule light at Verdens Ende (End of the World) in Tjøme, Norway. Vippefyrs were small navigational aids popular in Norway and Denmark in the eighteenth century and before. They consisted of a basket in which wood or coal was set; this was then burned. The basket was affixed to a lever which allowed it to be manipulated as required. The vippefyr system was generally viewed as ineffective, as it produced little light and was usually unreliable. This vippefyr was built in 1932 based on old drawings of vippefyrs.

I love the contrast of the coloured stones and the snow. Very different. That thingy probably holds a tea light ;-)

Lilly, what is the stick/chain/basket thingy? Is that where they put the light?
