Designed by Galveston's most fanous architect, Nicholas Clayton, this home was built for Confederate cavalryman, attorney, and railroad magnate Walter Gresham. It was completed in 1892 and survived the devastating 1900 storm that destroyed most of the city. In the 1920's it was sold to the Galveston-Houston archdiocese and has been known ever since as the Bishops's Palace.
