Thousands of fishermen from different parts of the country come to the river to fish. The fisherman with the largest catch wins the prize. The first prize winner, Abubakar Dabo from Birnin Kebbi caught a tilapia fish weighing 65kg. The winner got the cheque of N300,000 and also a brand new Honda city car and one-year health insurance with multishield medical services. Alhaji Saidu Indire also from Birnin Kebbi came second. He caught a 25kg sized fish and went home with a cash prize of N200,000 a motorcycle, a trip to the holy land, while the state government promised fishing implements worth N70,000. The third prize went to Hussani Sa'idu from Zamfara state. He caught a 20kg fish and won N100,000, a motorcycle, a hajj trip and fishing implements worth N30,000 from the state government
