Tanks for the memories... (sorry couldn't help it)
2008-05-15 05:28:22
The round turrets and the lack of a muzzle attachment to evacuate the bore of the main gun make those tanks look like T-62's, a Soviet main battle tank produced from 1961 to 1975. This is the tank the Warsaw Pact forces would have used to invade Western Europe had they tried to. Most of the T-62's used in actual combat were used in Middle Eastern wars. One of the tank's distinctive features is a smoothbore 115mm gun which sacrificed accuracy of fire for the sake of doubling the range. The armies which used it in battle lost the wars they were fighting, so this tank cemetery is probably somewhere in Iraq.
