Jack, note that the rich people are not fat. Simply because they eat well. Go into a superstore with 40 bucks. Use two trolleys. Fill one with healthy food worth 20 bucks, and the other with readymade, cans and other subsidized stuff. You'll have 3 times as much food in the second trolley.

Agriculture produces only 2% of the European Union GDP yet agriculture subsidies consume half the European Union budget. Yet, Europeans aren't as fat as Americans. So I question whether Americans are fat because of government agricultural subsidies. In most countries alcohol is not only not subsidized, it is one of the most heavily taxed consumer goods. Yet, alcoholism is a public problem even in some of the countries which tax it most. For that matter, even when it was completely banned in the USA that prohibition was widely flouted. No, the cause of American obesity must be due to something cultural rather than federal fiscal policy.

You're committing the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy, look it up if you don't know what it is. Correlation does not necessarily imply causation.

Americans should wake up and start to learn basics... for example to eat normal... would lead to a better world in every meaning

Yet another America-bash post. Big minus. You're welcome.

That would apply if anyone was actually following the recommendations. The main reason has more to do with American society, which is one of gluttonous overconsumption. People need to open their eyes and stop rationalizing their actions by claiming its the government's fault or some restaurants fault for forcing them to eat poorly.

Has nothing to do with subsidies. Today a friend sent me a funny Email with a picture of a mule sticking his head in the refridgerator in someones house. Caption: Keep your ass out of the fridge. It's also very true. In Europe and Asia people can't afford to eat a lot of food or to throw food away, and gluttony is considered a mortal sin. If Americans would just eat right and exercise regularly, we'd be fine.

Prior to the 70s fat people were uncommon. The "Federal Nutrition Recommendations" (heavily favouring carbohydrates) were introduced in the 70s. Now 50% of the population is overweight. Hmmm...
