"The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds." - Carl Sagan 'Pale Blue Dot'

lol, its funny he focuses the small tiny insignificant scale of the earth and then somehow makes it seem like the lives and inevitable deaths of the beings on earth as somehow important.

My temp inside my body is 1 degree lower than average and yet you see these stars thousands of times bigger than the sun frying other things.

I've stared at this montage in fascination for long periods now, repeatedly. But now I have a question. Since when have we been able to image distant stars with that amount of detail, that we can make out surface details like that?

Oh, my God... We are atoms on the scale of the Universe. And all it's alien creations and creatures.

Best thing on this site.

For those who think this is amazing you should watch Indescribable by Louie Giglio. He goes into some detail about just how massive the universe is. There are a few clips on YouTube, but as always to get the full effect you should buy it on DVD. It's something to show your kids so they can truly appreciate the vastness of the night sky.
