He trys to cloak a landscape picture by photoshoping a ghost into it.

Fact is, Poopsalot, I don't spend much time looking for evidence of the holocaust, not have I ever. My interests and professional training are in other areas of study. I am aware, however, of what the general consensus of opinion is among professional scholars and historians, and your version of events is simply not consistent with their version of events. Why should I, or anyone, believe you know what you're talking about? Why should we believe you when your version of things is diametrically opposed to the preponderance of opinion? Are you an historian? Do you have a graduate degree, or any professional credentials in history? Have you published in peer-reviewed academic journals? Are you recognized by others in your field ? Are you a member of the faculty at a university, or of any professional societies or organizations? The reasons you have presented in suppport of your argument thus far have pretty much boiled down to "It's the way I say it is because I say so."

What do either of these comments have to do with the picture above? A photoshopped image of a ghost in a forest and you two are debating the authenticity of the holocaust? What's that about?

'...NOR have I ever.' As to the 'an historian', it is somewhat affected and you are only using it because you know the following: "The indefinite article a is pronounced either of two ways: as a schwa, or as the letter itself is pronounced, 'long a' (actually a diphthong, /eɪ/). Some words beginning with the letter h have the primary stress on the second or later syllable. Pronouncing a as a schwa can diminish the sound of the schwa and melt into the vowel. Pronouncing it as a 'long a' does not do this, but as the article a is pronounced either of two ways: as a schwa, or as the letter itself is pronounced, 'long a' (actually a diphthong, /eɪ/). Some words beginning with the letter h have the primary stress on the second or later syllable. Pronouncing a as a schwa can diminish the sound of the schwa and melt into the vowel. Pronouncing it as a 'long a' does not do this, but as the pronunciation cannot be prescribed, the word is spelled the same for either. Hence an may be seen in such phrases as 'an historic', 'an heroic', and 'an hôtel of excellence'." (Quote from Wikipedia.) Have a good day in you ivory tower, Professor, and if you wish to be an hind leg of a donkey, you are welcome. P.S. I broke the a/an rule deliberately, PatitO.

I'm not debating the authenticity of the holocaust with Phillip, or with anyone else. In fact, I've urged others on this site on several occassions NOT to try to debate or argue this issue with him, and I frankly don't care what the guy believes. If he thinks the Nazis weren't actually all that bad and that Hitler was just misunderstood, I have no interest in convincing him otherwise. I'm just trying to explain to him why most people aren't persuaded by his arguments.
As for Miss Annie's comments: if trying to explain to poor ol' Phillip why I think he's a crackpot makes me any part of a donkey, hind leg or otherwise, so be it. I've sure as hell been called worse. And I'm proud of you for going to all the trouble to look that point of usage up on Wikipedia...that's a sign of an inquiring mind. And yes, I do plan to have a good day in my Ivory Tower...have the a/c on and it's real comfy...but might leave it long enough to take my dog for a long walk on the beach this morning, and if the surf is clear might see if I can snag a couple of sand trout. Hope you have a good day too !

The hind leg of the donkey referred ONLY to your enthusiasm in correcting other people's grammar at great length when you are not immune to grammatical errors yourself, despite your impressive resume. You can continue to explain to poor ol' Phillip anything your small heart desires; my comment was NOT about that, which should have been obvious to you, PatitO. As to my inquiring mind, I did not have to go to Wiki for the a/an issue because of lack of my own knowledge, I went there to be able to copy what I already knew just to save writing time. Why should you want to be proud of me? You know nothing about me. And thanks, I am going to have a good day, despite your pompous attitude. Enjoy your fishing!

Oh, I make grammatical errors all the time..can't spell worth a dang either..my sniping at others who make mistakes is just poking good natured fun, really...guess I oughta stick those little smiley face things on to my posts so folks can tell I'm just messin' with 'em...certainly wasn't my intention to say or do anything that would cause you to get you panties in a wad. I do have some concerns that the internet, although it facilitates communication in lots of ways, seems to have led to a decline in the ability of young people to write the English languge in a formally correct way..but maybe that's not really very important in the long run..and I promise you, Miss Annie, that if you knew me you would understand that I'm about as laid back and un-pompous as a feller can be...Peace, Sister !

I share your concerns and I am known to get on my soapbox about the ever-lowering standard of the English language myself, but this place is a lost cause. And if you start sticking on the smileys, I'll kill 'ya!
