The vet will usually knock the dog out before starting to remove the quills. That looks like at least an hours work to remove all of them

Re Smalley's comment above: fact is, a lot of dogs make this mistake more than once...had a friend in Colorado who had a couple of large mixed-breed pooches who tangled with porcupines numerous times, year after year...dogs are pretty savvy, but their instinct to chase critters can easily overwhelm their good sense...luckily for dogs, porcupine quills usually don't penetrate very deeply and are fairly easy to remove...
