The P-61 was the largest and heaviest fighter aircraft to serve with the USAAF in WWII.

The P-61 was the first US aircraft specifically designed for night fighting.

LOCKHEAD. AND I THINK THAT WAS THE P-51, WHICH HAD AN AWSOME REPUTATION AS A DIFICULT PLANE TO FLY.

Great website, sean, thanks.

I understand they moved the cannons up and behind the pilot because the muzzle flash blinded him if they were in front

The P61 black widow was a light fighter/bomber and reconnaisance plane that usually had a non reflective black paint job for night flying. it was literally the stealth plane of it's day. The P51 mustang, however, was a single seat fighter and was much smaller.
