It looks like the water intake or drain is shaped like the end of a trumpet or horn of some sort. It also looks to be only several inches below the surface. I wonder if this device is capable of being raised or lowered relative to the water surface to increase the intake of water... because I dont think the current that may trouble sudsy's dreamworld looks too terrible bad..... but I could be wrong....

We use to bike up there when I was in high school. It's next to the dam at Lake Berryessa near Winters, CA.

Yep Several people on here know it. I used to live in winters, San Jose, Vacaville, Copperopolis, and Esparto at different times in my life and this was a favorite place to go for rides on my bike. I have some pictures of it somewhere if I can find them. Including one one day with a group of the hells angels parked in the overlook area where you can view the glory hole. It does give you a feeling of insignificance when you stand and watch and listen to it at full flow.

I grew up not far from Lake Berryessa in N.CA where this picture was taken. The "Glory Hole" as it is called drains excess water from the lake during high runoff years. The drain dumps the excess water into Putah Creek. The vent is just a large concrete tube-30+ feet in diameter if I remember correctly. The water is not constantly flowing through it, as a matter of fact it was "news" when it did.

Nope. This is at Lake Berryessa in Northern California. Google glory hole and Lake Berryessa and see what you get. This also is an excellent lake to fish for bass.

Definitely not Photoshopped. This is Lake Berryessa. When I was a kid we'd go out on a boat right up to that red floating boundary in the background. It would freak me out because I thought our boat was going to get sucked into the glory hole!

Basically, the hole is right beside a dam. When the water level rises high enough, which is rare, it spills into the glory hole and comes out in a creek on the other side of the dam.

My grandfather owned 100 acres near this spot and my dad worked on the construction of the dam for which the "glory hole" is an overflow device (more properly called the "morning glory," because of its shape, usually visible in drought years in this northern california lake that provides water to farms and cities below. 48 of my granddad's original acres are still in the family, myself being one of the property's five owners. It is only accessible by boat since the lake filled up and blocked other access to the property. I rent a boat from a resort nearby and visit the property when I vacation in California from my home in Virginia Beach. The property near the dam and its glory hole are a great wilderness retreat on which are wild turkey, deer, and a mountain lion or two (to name a few critters I have observed while camping there.

Yes, it's in Lake Berryessa near Winters, CA (about 1 hour north of San Francisco). It extends straight down to the bottom of the dam (I'm guessing a couple hundred feet) and bends slowly to horizontal, and empties into Putah Creek. It rarely has water in it, and the exit pipe is several hundred feet horizontal, and is used by skateboarders. Check out this site - it's got a photo taken from inside the pipe, looking out onto Putah Creek. I took this back in 1987 or so, when I used to skate that huge pipe...
