You know, on some level, it's not the politicians, the diplomats, or the governments that bring war to the world any more; these days, its also the millions of intolerant bigots posting utter shite on the net who don't take the time to explore and understand other cultures and find out that most *individuals* from other cultures than our own are more like us than we may have expected. There are a MINORITY of Muslims that believe in extremist "jihadism," just as there are a MINORITY of Christians that believe in extremist "crusadism." As an atheist, and therefore *to some extent* an uninvolved bystander to your conflict of religious cultures, I'd like to see people from both sides take the time to get to know strangers from other cultures on a one to one basis. After all, shouldn't you be 1000% sure that your Deity really does condone the deaths of individuals based solely on their faith? There are no consequences if Allah, or if God, REALLY does turn out to be on your side, but what if some of the translations in your religious texts are wrong, and you're not supposed to kill the infidels (after all as either a Muslim or a Christian, don't you believe that either Allah or God created all of those other non-believing people your holy book calls evil, just as you believe Allah or God made you)? Dare you risk the wrath of your maker for murdering his children because of little more than the differences of the cultures into which they were born? And on a side note, can any of you explain why an atheist such as myself can understand the concept of 'turning the other cheek' better than most of the fundamentalist Christians I've met?

Agnosticism is about knowledge, atheism is about belief.
Atheists are perfectly justified in believing there is no God, even if they don't "know" for certain...
just as you are justified in believing there is no Zeus, even if you don't "know" for certain.

who are you to judge the people in this picture?...and to whoever made comments to muslims about america, autralia having cultures, you will find that these countries cultures are made up of all the different ethnic groups that live there and have lived there for a long long time. without all these people said countries would be devoid of culture and identity of any worth

it's indecent to show PDA. what do you guys think? no hug, no kiss = hateful? why do you people just judge things based on what you SEE? seeing is not really believing.
have you ever asked yourself if whoever did the translations to the Quran is true? whoever done it might have changed them to make Islam sound like hateful religion so that gullible people (who believe what they see or hear straight away) would take the side of hating the religion.
take the time to study other cultures for yourself. its just like gossips; you're can't be certain of what people say is really true, you have to find out for yourself. i agree with what the atheist guy commented.

Religion can never reform people because religion is slavery.Like Hitler also said:"The bigger the lie the more the people will believe it." That's why religion keeps growing because the lie gets bigger and bigger until it will consume the ones who believe and bring suffering also to the ones that don't.Because the people who believe don't like the people that don't believe to show them the real facts and the real world. It's better to live in a dream thinking we will live eternaly than to live in reality and know we are going to die and cease to exist.

If I could put "dialouge balloons on top of the couple on the RIGHT, it will be fun to play around with what they could be thinking:
man: Jeez, I wish I could do what that guy was doing.
woman: That girl doesn't have the decency to conduct herself properly in public.
OR...
man: Though I'm in this country of infidels, I must be strong to fight all these temptations around me.
woman: Why am I prohibited to express my feelings (as long as I don't screw in the streets)!
OR...
man: Just look at them, doing what they are doing without regard and consideration to the sensitivities of others.
woman: This is the west, and we are guests. And when in Rome, do as the Romans do.

Woah - way to be culturally ignorant there. Haha. So when did it become wrong to respect others by not strewing our sexual acts about in public? How do you know that the couple on the right (they might be brother and sister for all you know) dont love each other just as much. Also, where was this pic taken? What if this is a holy site to them, and they are just shocked at the brazen displays of affection from the foreigners? The phrase "Get a room" comes to mind. Theres probably a lot more going on here than you have the insight to judge.

i'm so glad to here the reaction of most people here, to stand up to the intollerance we're experiencing in the world right now. if that really is a mosque, then the cuddling couple is really being disrespectful. i'm sure most christians would have a problem with this kind of behaviour on the steps of a church!

Tanya, don't say you're SURE about things because you know nothing. If you go to Rome in the tourist season, couples resting/cuddling/kissing on church steps are very common and nobody is prudish enough to judge that.
And for all of you saying touching a loved one in public is disrespectful, I understand where you're coming from. You're coming from a culture where any expression of affection or sexuality is so offensive that it needs to be covered up and repressed, while all YOU need to do is be respectful enough not to stare. Nobody is holding your eyelids open and forcing you to look. So look elsewhere or close your eyes. Judging is much more disrespectful than 2 young people in love resting on some stone steps.

You ignorant morons (those who are bigots including the original uploader), just because they are reluctant to show affection in public makes them hateful????? It makes them devoid of love, like they are not capable of love??? Just because they are modest and behaving decently in public????? Just because they are not doing it in front of your eyes does NOT mean that they never do it. You need to get your head straight and take some logic classes so that when you say something, it just might make some sense.
By the way, the little white label at mid-right, does say Mosque in English, in the picture. So yeah, I am pretty sure some catholics might have a problem if I started making out in a church. If anything, this picture shows me how inconsiderate, rude, and inappropriate is this couple. First of all, they don't have any respect for the local customs or laws. You know, if you are really desperate, then just get a room. In addition, this is being done in front of a place of devotion and piety. Why do you think that the Muslim couple on the right is staring?
To all the bigots here, instead of criticizing and make fun of the way other people think, learn to respect them and follow social customs and laws. What makes you think that you are so much better than others? I am sure that you would "demand" the same, when others come to your country so why not do the same when you go there.
And do those of (the ones who posted here) who are a bit more enlightened and respectful, peace to you guys, may you be an atheist, Christian, or anyone else.
Proud to be a Muslim!!!!

hello all, most westerns understand Islam wrong.Am a Muslim and yes we do believe in Jesus and you will find out that every thing that muslims do is for the better. Most muslims you hear about on TV acts are forbidden (there is a clear difference between Jihad and terrorism) and are most of the time people with mental problems and Allah knows better. You people yourselves are brainwashed by your media about Muslims. If you want to know about a culture(religion) you go and read about it from someone who belongs to it and not an anti organization

I don't get how the couple on the right are being indecent. If you actually LOOK at the picture they aren't engaging in even remotely sexual activity. They aren't even making out... It's a guy laying his head in a woman's lap and her arm is around him.
Also, just because the couple to the left aren't showing affection for one another means nothing to their ability or even desire to do so.
Cultures are different. Point blank.

This picture does not show the meeting of the cultures. Whoever put this up knows nothing of Islam, so it's understandable that they would misinterpret it. The cultures are very similar actually. The only difference is what is done in public and what is done in privacy. Muslims love each other with all that they have. They are peaceful and grateful caring and hardworking. You should never judge a group you know nothing about based simply on their religion. It is sad that you put this up thinking that the Muslims were hateful. I hope that you find time in your life to actually learn about other cultures so that you will find some true understanding. I encourage you to go to countries like Iran, Lebanon, and Turkey and find out for yourself the true Middle Eastern experience. You will more than likely be amazed at how off-base your previous perceptions were.

Yeah Right - the couple on the right share a greater bond -its called master and slave -they may or may not "love" each other - But he is the boss and she must do as he says because it is written is some book somewhere supposedly by their God but which was actually written by MEN. She cannot go anywhere or do anything without his PERMISSION or her fathers permission or by the permission of the all MALE religious leaders. If that is her husband she may not have any say whether she wanted to be with him or not. And if she displeases him he can immediately divorce her simply by saying it three times or he can even lock her in a room and let her starve to death or even burn her to death or bury her in the sand and stone her to death and he would be thought of as highly moral by their ridiculous religious tenets. She has no freedom to express herself outside the confines of their home and only then by the whim of the Man. As a young girl she was probably forcibly circumcised without anesthesia and sewn up until it was time for marriage and children. She has no right to refuse her husband sex on demand. She cannot drive a car or get an education or be seen without being covered or even speak to any men other than her husband father and brothers. Yes that is a great bond.

Actually, FF, the legal status of women varies widely within the Islamic world from country to country...in some countries women are virtual chattel,in others they have legal rights comparable to women in western countries..and don't forget: women in the United States and in Europe have enjoyed full legal equality for only a very short time, historically...they have had the right to vote for less than a hundred years here in the States...for an interesting and insightful account of women's experience in the Moslen world read "The Bookseller of Kabul" by Asne Seierstad..
