Looking at the photo again... it looks like someone heaved a bottle of something at the crucifix! Notice how something has smashed, splattered and run down the wall. Maybe that happened before the crucifix was put there.

Well, maybe ... sometimes a photo can be a kind of projective diagnostic instrument, like a Rorschach test....and I admit my initial response to this photo was that it was of a down-and-out, defeated, and probably not very happy old man...but we really don't know....what we can tell is that the old fellow is still alive, while a lot of folks in his age cohort are not....he has a roof over his head and a bed to sleep in, and there're a good many people in the world who have neither of those things...he has a window full of sunlight, and half a bottle of liquor....and for all we know his wife or grown daughter is in the kitchen frying up some sausage, making a big pot of oatmeal for his breakfast, and about to bring him a nice hot cup of coffee......who can say ?
