That is neat..and it's a good photo of a beautiful animal...but it isn't a snow leopard ( Pathera uncia ).....see today's new photos for a look at actual snow leopards...they live in the mountains of Central Asia, usually between the tree line and the permanent snow line, and are among the world's most elusive large cats..very few people and almost no westerners have ever seen one in the wild...Peter Matthiessen's "The Snow Leopard" is a fascinating account of his 1973 trek into the Himilayas in search of these critters..

Yes, in a way..but this cat has some orange or yellowish coloration, while true snow leopards are mostly all shades of white and grey....for the difference between a leopard and a panther, let us turn to Ogden Nash..."A panther is like a leopard that hasn't been peppered. If you behold a panther crouch, prepare to say ouch. If called by a panther, don't anther." Sorry....my head is full of that kind of nonsense and sometimes it just pops out.
