Dunno...it's not my photo. Maybe it's the forest goblins. But, someone else posted a photo of that tree (different one), and it didn't have the placard. Maybe someone stole it for a souvenir. If they want precious metal, they'd go after copper...and they do unfortunately.

Okay, great info. Connie. But what happened to the placard that was in the top rail of the fence? I think it was those rebel recyclers who roam the forest in search of precious metals.

The LARGEST LIVING ANIMAL on earth: It's the blue whale. It measures about 75-80 feet long (23-24.5 meters) and weighs about 110 tons (99,800 kilograms). The BIGGEST LIVING THING on earth: It's a tree. The California Big Trees are a kind of sequoia tree growing in Sequoia National Park in California. Some of these giants grow to a height of 270 feet. The redwood trees are taller, sometimes reaching heights over 350 feet, but the Big Trees are much wider and heavier. The biggest is almost 26 feet wide, with bark 24 inches thick in some places, and weighs 2,145 tons! The General Sherman tree (a giant Redwood) weighs approx 2500 tons and is the HEAVIEST SINGLE LIVING THING. The tallest tree ever measured was a Mountain Ash (Eucalyptus regnans)in Australia in 1872, 435 feet tall. OR THE BIGGEST LIVING THING ON EARTH: It's a fungus (Armillaria ostoyae), commonly known as the honey mushroom. This giant fungus was found in the Malheur National Forest in eastern Oregon. It stretches 3.5 miles (5.6 kilometers) across and covers an area larger than 1,600 football fields. Most of it is hidden underground. THE LARGEST STRUCTURE ON EARTH: The Great Barrier Reef, which is a coral reef, is the largest structure in the world to have been built by living creatures. It is also called the largest “living thing” in the world, and was easily placed on the World Heritage list. It is not just the largest mass of living organisms on earth but also the most incredibly complex and diverse ecosystem known to man. The Great Barrier Reef stretches for more than 2900 km (1430 miles) along the east coast from the Gulf of Papua to a point near Gladstone. It actually consists of more than 2,500 separate, interconnected reefs comprising layer upon layer of polyps – tiny, rapidly reproducing marine invertebrates which secrete limestone. Large colonies of polyps are connected horizontally; a thin film forms over their hard protective skeletons, binding them together and eventually, after hundreds of years, they become coral The Great Barrier Reef, which is a coral reef, is the LARGEST STRUCTURE in the world to have been built by living creatures.
