The Russian tall ship Kruzenshtern will visit Vancouver during the 2010 Winter Olympics. The four-masted barque is the second-largest of its kind in the world. The ship, with 120 cadets aboard, is scheduled to arrive at North Vancouver’s Burrard Drydock on February 10. The ship will be open to public tours two or three days a week. They are hoping to obtain a temporary coastal trading licence “to allow it to take the public for short cruises” into Howe Sound for a small fee. And I’m hoping to be one of the lucky ones. In my younger days, I was with the Canadian Naval Reserve. At that time, and later on, I got to go on many ships from different countries. One I remember well is the Jeanne d’Arc from France.
