In my culture (country Zimbabwe), hyenas are used for whichcraft, you would not be able to tame one and get away with it, you would be answerable to the which craft act.
Popolov! - you are an idiot! you know nothing about nothing - I live in africa and you are a fool to believe the crap you believe.
guard dog my ass! what's it supposed to do to an intruder? bite hime? bark?
pfft ..l.
Popolov's real name is Philip. If you call him Popolov, it'll take time to register that you're actualy talking to him. He'll be looking round to see where that Popolov person is.
nobody notices what's really weird: those chickens walking around in the background. wouldn't the hyena be going for them like a mad dog? no bc this one is well-fed. i've read about these (there's several) pics, it's a circus hyena. who doesn't give a shit.
Popolov - I'm glad to see at least one person has some sense here, among all these politically-correct bleeding hearts. Don't try to force your happy-shiny privileged white morals on a situation you could never understand.
to him its just like a dog to us, but yet im wondering... guarding him from humans? i dont think so... the hyena most probably listen to him, and so hed be just as much in danger when he takes of that muffler... guard him from animals? i dont think so either, because the hyena is (especially on its own) a not very brave animal. anything that could attack the guy wouldnt mind about a hyena... so i think its a stupid thing to do (not only because of animal right reasons) ... im also wondering how impressive it is to other people of his kind. it only seems cool to us, becaus its unusual, but if everybody runs around with a hyena, who gives a shit anymore?
"NONE of us Westerners LIVES..." You're the first one who's ever got that right! You're highly educated man, Popololov! You must have read Paradigms Lost. As to the comment, we humans mostly walk around with blinders on and only see what's in front of us. You had a wider view. Thank you.
Abhorrent as it is, we do not know the circumstances of 'why' the man has a hyena on a leash. None of us Westerners lives in 'his' environment, and upon that basis we do not have 'any' right to judge him! If you have been reading the news of the atrocities committed by various tribal factions in Africa over the past few years you may have a little more understanding. For all we know, the man in the photo may have the hyena as a guard dog for protection against such attackers. If that is the case, in his environment, it is the best option for him. In the West, we use video surveillances, alarms, security personnel and police. In 'his' environment he has none of those options.
Karen: Beacuse we should NEVER stop caring about animals living like this! This hyena is absolutely NOT born to live like he does. Tormenting is a weak word... Wild animals should live free, simple as that. And second: How could anyone want a hyena as 'pet' ??? Just plain stupid from my point of view. //Henric; Sweden
I can't help but feel sorry for the hyena. The reason its vicious enough to need muzzled like that is because it isn't meant to be around people and can't be happy there.
