Yes, that's right..the poor guy is being forced to wear that cowboy hat, which lowers the wearer's perceived IQ by about a standard deviation. If you look kinda smart, you can wear a cowboy hat and just look normal. If you look normal, wearin' one will make you look kinda dumb. If you look dumb to start with, like ol' Chuck here, wearin' a cowboy hat'll make you look like an absolute moron.

Ventura doesn't really have anything to do with the above picture...I just used him as an example of an entertainer who entered politics with no background or experience yet was elected to high office...The 'President of Texas' part comes from what has been a fantasy on the part of a small group of Texans for years.Texas, as you may or may not know, after winning independence from Mexico, was an independent republic for almost ten years before being admitted to the Federal Union as a state. We had our own consitution, our own president, congress, and diplomatic relations with other countries. We had our own army and navy, and our own money, though precious little of it. That history, along with the sheer physical size of Texas ( we're bigger than France ) has given some of us whose roots are deep a sense of ourselves as a distinct people, a country within a country, as it were. And ever since, a few Texans have entertained themselves imagining that we'd be better off withdrawing from the Union and becoming an independent nation again. Every once in a while a bunch of 'em will parade around, make some noise, engage in bombastic and inflammatory rhetoric, and get the attention of the mnedia. But they're actually pretty harmless since almost no one takes them seriously.

I had never heard of Ventura; just googled him a minute ago. What has he to do with this picture? And what does the caption "President of Texas" mean in connection with either Norris or Ventura?

It's Chuck Norris, a guy who makes Jesse Ventura look like a thoughful intellectual. Ventura, in case you aren't aware, was an ex-professional wrestler who became governor of Minnesota.
