I just checked on the net - the word is symbiotic relationship. It means a mutual relationships where both benefit. One that comes to mind is sea anemone and anemone fish. I don't know what the sea anemone gets out of the relationship, but the fish uses the sea anemone for camouflage - to hide. I'm sure there are symbiotic relationships between human individuals - example a married couple who no longer love each other, but stay together for some mutual benefit (children, finances tied up together, etc)

Each helps the other - in the animal world that type of relationship between different species actually has a name, but I can't remember the word for now....something like symbiotic or....

Horses and mules actually seem to like it. All kinds of little critters, ticks and etc, live in that thick hair and the birds find them and eat them. It probably feels good.
