This is an A-36 Apache first variant of the mustang.

Its definately a Mustang, you can see from the tail planes, A P40 would be rounded although the P40 did have the distinctive smaller air intake on top of the nose as well as the the one that came underneath to feed the Carb. This is a P51-B Mustang and the main variation between this and the P51-D is the bubble canopy which was added to aid rearward visibility and improve aerodynamics.

My money says it's a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk.

It it a P-51...just an extremely early example...with the Allison engine (as opposed to the Rolls-Royce Merlin). The bubble canopy was in the P-51D and on models...the B & C models had the classic framed glass.

It IS a P-51, a very early model without the bubble cockpit.

its not the p51. i dont know what it is, but not the p51. may be the bf 109 ?
