No Ma'm...I've talked to too many people who've stayed during storms and said they'd never do it again....they say nothing can prepare you for the sound of the wind....I just don't need that level of excitement in my life, so I headed for higher ground...and yes, after that kind of storm it's a long time before basic services are restored..people here were without phone, television, gas or drinkable water for what seemed like forever...of all those, what we came to miss most was a hot shower...

Patito, where were you during the storm if your wife was at the UTMB? Holding the fort at home? I remember you telling about the damage to your property and having tree and plant losses in the garden... how are things now, after one year? - You were gone from Pixdaus a loooong time, so the repair work etc must have been extensive.

I had watched on CNN the damage done by Ike. Nature is beautiful but also very cruel.

No Ma'm...I believe it may have been someone up at the University Hospital ( UTMB)...a good many core administrative and medical staff rode out the storm there, my wife among them.. ....and a good many city officials, police , firemen, EMTs, and the like also stayed on the Island at one of the big hotels that is built high up above the level of most of the rest of the place....
