Hey Guys...whoa! You've got yourselves all wound up over the position of a small blue dot on a graph on your PC screens!

We don't incarcerate the innocent over here. People who commit crimes sometimes get caught and sometimes go to prison (after being convicted by a civil jury of their peers). Any idiot can understand "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time." People end up in US prisons by choice. We have found that incarceration is cheaper than allowing criminals to perpetuate their chosen careers against the innocent of our society. You people seem to take such delight in bashing the US. I have been an ex-pat and seen what other countries have to offer. Truth is your average typical daily lives blow compared to ours. You people can dig up anything you want and say whatever you want, but wherever you are from there is a steady influx from your country to this one. As a friend of mine from CZ (now a US Citizen) said, "they are just jealous". I am sorry that our lives are so much better and that we are getting fat on all of this good affordable ethnic food cooked by all of the immigrants from your countries.

Right...

Threatening somebody here? That's pretty bizarre. Do you actually think we are scared? Are you 5 years old, or just mentally unstable?

Blacks are 8 times more likely than whites to be prosecuted for any sort of crime in the U.S. This does not correlate to actual guilt.

Actually the US had unusually high murder and rape rates when compared to other 'advanced' nations. This is still not accurate for places like Saudi Arabia, for example, who has low rates because they execute for anything at all so have few prisoners. Some other nations may not have public record of citizens they are keeping held in secret, but that is no different than the US sadly.

undreclass? black? large? dude do you know anything? so you are correlating blacks to crime? is that why you mentioned brazil? actually the US black population is not that large, but by far the most succesful in the world. There are more mexicans in US than blacks!

Oh please. I won't even comment on what you said, it's that asinine. Threatening... ha ha ha.. I'll just say that you really need to learn how to reply to comments. See the "reply to this" at the bottom right corner of the post? Well, use it.

Yes, that seems like outrage - or more exactly, the wining, threatening, ("don't tick me off" - what's THAT about?) - posting of a troll. I will say, however, that I'd rather spend time looking at what passes for people's self-righteous political posts than a single . . . more . . . cat picture. There, now I've made the politicos and the crazy cat ladies mad at me.

Two comments. First, Brazil and South Africa have all of the crime (and murder) capitals of the world, yet their incarceration rates are lower than in the US. This suggests that USA actually enforces its laws. Second, it is not surprise that USA is near the top. It's the only western country that has a large (and by now mostly hopelessly failed) black underclass whose members seriously inflate the crime statistics.

Even though the US has a death penalty in theory, we simply don't use it.
2008-02-05 08:48:33
I assume you were talking to me? Ha, outrage. If you think THAT's outrage, I'll just warn you not to tick me off :P... as for the rest of your comment, meh. whatever. I think what makes websites like this die is stupid whiny people who post comments saying they voted it down simply because it's a politically motivated picture.
2008-02-05 08:34:46
Wow, such outrage because somebody doesn't like the political post. Go ahead, turn this "cool photo" website into a political forum, and watch it dry up like so many others. OR . . . you could go for your political commentary somewhere else, and leave the "cool pics" to the "cool pic people" . . .
2008-02-05 07:47:03
Oh shut up about that already will you? Nobody cares about your "big" minus vote. You say you're against politically motivated posts, but the very fact that you're saying that makes your post politically motivated. From now on I will automatically vote politically-motivated posts up just to offset your mindless reaction.
2008-02-05 07:24:34
Yet another politically motivated post. Here's yer big minus vote...

That graph alone means absolutely nothing. It could be due to a lot of different variables even if it IS true, and without a lot more information you cannot possibly draw any conclusions from it. People will only see what they WANT to see. Some redneck conservative theocrat may see it as the superiority of the US' police force, while others might see it as the corruption of the government, or the superiority of certain nationalities/cultures, etc.
2008-02-05 07:04:25
In some of those countries they just kill people without trials. Fewer prisoners that way. And how much do we trust the "data" from Russia, China, Cuba, Iran ... ?
