Mental health professionals have long been aware that there is a fairly pronounced spike in cases of depression and anxiety associated with the Christmas holidays...part of it is that people's expectations are driven upward by the ceaseless promotions and advertising that preceeds the holidays...then when reality fails to measure up to the idealized hype, people feel let down..another reason is the relentless pressure to buy, spend, and consume...also, people who are alone to begin with feel even lonlier and more socially isolated during the holidays..what should be a very special time of year, the celebration of the Birth of a Child and the Renewal of Hope, and Faith in the Return of Light to the World has been hijacked by greed and materialism....to many it's nothing more than a marketing opportunity...

well i meant the turkey's coz they are on the menu,but i'm not looking forward to it either coz i'm an old humbug

Do you mean that you're not looking forward to Christmas Kev, or that the turkeys aren't because of them becoming the dinner ? I tend to think the latter...
