Mother: I have for her father side, but waiting for her mother's side (I only have up to the great grandmother). Father: My cousin has all the information for his father's side, but I'm not sure yet if she has all for my mother side (I only have up to my great grandmother...the one who was American).

Do you know the maiden names of all eight of your great-great-grandmothers?

I know a lot about my ancestors on both sides. I and a cousin in France have done a lot of research with the help of a geneologist, on my mother's side. This summer, while in France, I got copies of birth, baptism, marriage, death acts. We were able to go back to the late 1600s. They were originally vikings who went to Normandy. They went to England with William the Conqueror, and did well for themselves with him. My ancestors got in disfavour with a future king,, so left for France. On the other side of my family: they came to Canada in the early 1600s...some of the first settlers to New France. . We have an association that is very active in Canada and the States (many of them went on to New England). The association does the geneology for us going back to the beginning in New France; unfortunately, they don't know from where in France they came from, but most likely Normandy. But, they were able to trace us back to William the Coqueror. However, I read that everyone of European descent can be traced back to him.

I have some Creek Indian in my genetic inheritance on my mother's side...most folks whose familes have been in the Americas for many generations have some Indian blood in their veins....probably some African too...as my father, a social scientist, used to say, there was a lot of after-dark integration in the Old South..We all have a lot of ancestors we don't know much about, and even more that we don't know anything about...just a few generations back and there are literally hundreds of people from whom we are equally descended, genetically...I can trace my paternal ancestors back to Norway in the 10th century, but by that time the number of my ancestors exceeds the total pouation of Europe at that time...most of us, if we knew, could trace our ancestry back to some noble lord or lady..but we're also descended from milkmaids, wood choppers, plowmen, swine heards, scullery knaves, pirates, desperadoes, whores and scoundrels...all of us....we are, after all, one big family...

Interesting jacksparrow. My great grandmother was American and we suspect she was part native. But, sadly in those days, no one would admit that.
