In may Telugu language it's name is Tumma.though there may be many names for it in India,cause each state speak different language.Yes! It is of acacia family one.

Many thanks, Patito. Glad to help. The link from Wikipedia says that the leaves can drop due to dryness or cold, so maybe that is what happened here and why there are no leaves in the above photo....

Good work, PG. Even without seeing the leaves I'd almost bet my wife's car that is, in fact, Acacia constricta, or Whitethorn acacia. It's common in the Sonoran Desert country...Southwest Texas, Northern Mexico, Southern New Mexico and Arizona....in Spanish it's Largancillo or Chaparro Prieto...too bad the photo doesn't show the leaves..that would enable us to say for certain..

I meant to say that the pictures in the link I provided, does not show spines, not in the picture that tinkerbell provided....

Could this tree be called Acacia constricta ? The pictures do not show the spines, but the description in the link below says that this tree has pairs of straight white spines anywhere from 0.5 to 2 cm long. Hope this helps....

It's a very common tree in India and Africa.may be due to globalization it came there.We use it's hard wood for making forming tools,carts,door frames,windows.It gives natural gum.useful as fencing,stopping floods,heavy wind.Usually spreads at water bodies.Useful in medicine.
