Three locomotives and tons of track etc. were shipped to Solomon, Alaska (near Nome) in 1903 as the start of the Council City and Solomon River Railroad. Construction on this railroad, that was intended to serve the gold mining communities beyond Nome and to extend all of the way to Vancouver, lasted only three years. The gold mines played out and railroad plans were abandoned. The three locomotives and various other equipment were left behind to rust away on the Alaskan tundra. The local Alaskans have dubbed this site the "Last Train to Nowhere".
