"That puffed up trump" Mussolini just hopped into his time machine, drifted backward for two millennia and taught the Romans how to salute their emperor. What a mensch!
Exactly. The salute has absolutely *nothing* to do with nazism. It looks the same, that is all. As my historic teacher pointed out in class when we watched a video of the 1936 olympic games, she actually interrupted the movie to *correct* the narrator's voice which also said "the athletes perform the Hitler Salute". Which is totally inaccurate.
To be fair, this event likely occurred before WWII and this athlete was probably completely unaware of what Hitler was doing and just thought he was being 'patriotic'. I pity him because he had to live with this photo after finding out what Hitler was really up to, if he survived the war. Its similar to blaming a Buddhist for using a swastika when it was a Buddhist symbol thousands of years prior to WWII.
Hi Scy. Was I defending the athlete doing the Fascist salute? I made no mention of him. That salute, as I understand you know, was first created by that puffed up trump Mussolini.
Doug, I think you have a little more information on the subject than most of our celebrated Pixdausian friends. Yes, Germany did well, and Hitler honoured Owens for his triumph. One day the lies will be shattered for the truth to be set free for the whole world to know.

Guys, read up on it. It's a myth. Germany absolutely DOMINATED that Olympics. DOMINATED. In The Jesse Owens Story, he even said "When I passed the Chancellor he arose, waved his hand at me, and I waved back at him. I think the writers showed bad taste in criticizing the man of the hour in Germany." Check out the wikipedia page for Jesse Owens.
Popolov, if you are anti-facist, why would you be defending the athlete who is doing the facist salute - Hitler may have popularised it, but the salute belongs to the facist movement.
My dear Fyi_0, I am interested in truth, not falsity. And for your 'personal' edification, I also find Nazism repugnant, just like Communism and Fascism, the latter of which is the controlling force in the U.S., Britain and many other so-called democracies. At present I am researching another area that you may also find outrageous, namely Churchill!!!
