Nope..she's right, El Peon...this one house survied out of an entire neighorhood...in fact, a good many newer houses, built to conform to newer and more stringent building codes, did survive, even some of the ones located very near the beach...But Gilchrest was a place where lots of the houses were slap-dash, poorly built, and insubstantial, and there were a lot of mobile homes and trailers..a lot of low-income retired folks lived there because it was a relatively inexpensive, life was relaxed and easy, and you could nearly always catch something to eat....all those places were swept away with few traces remaining...the state plans to fill in the cut at Rollover Pass, which was Gilchrest's raison d'etre, so there's little incentive to rebuild......

Didn't survive... It's only one house rebuild in the neighborhood since. That is what make's it so special.

How did that one house survive? Was there something special about it?
