Not far from the truth, Abe Outs..most of the houses that did survive on Boliver were of recent vintage, built to new and more stringent codes than in past years, when you could throw just about anything together..a new community called Beach Town, on the East End of Galveston Island, survived Ike with only minor damage, due to strict new codes and rigorous inspection and enforcement..

This is the one guy who didn't pay off the Building Inspector.

Gilchrist is, or was, a town on the Boliver Penninsula, a narrow finger of land between East Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Before Ike a photo of this location from this perspective would have shown a couple of hundred houses and other buildings. You'd think no one would ever build again in such a place, but time will pass and people will forget.
