This is a crocodile. The picture was taken near Ellisras in South Africa.

I give you now Professor Twist, a conscientious scientist...Trustees exclaimed "he never bungles" and sent him off to foreign jungles. Whilst camped by tropic riverside, he one day missed his loving bride. She had, the guide informed him later, been eaten by an alligator. Professor twist could not but smile. "You mean," he said, "a crocodile."

Oh, I forgot about Alabama - they have Alligators as well. Not that anyone was dying for this information (or couldn't find it themselves in Wikipedia).

This appears to be an American Alligator, not a crocodile. You'll notice that the snout is very rounded, whereas a true crocodile's snout is much narrower/pointy. Although Florida (I lived there for two years) has the largest population of Alligators, the states of Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, & Texas all have smaller populations. Florida does in fact have a small population of crocodiles, but they are nowhere near as aggressive as the Nile crocodile. You also have to travel to the extreme SW area of the Everglades to see them (I've only seen them in pictures).
