Patito is a smart guy on certain facts, but his opinions are wrong at least half of the time! [laughing] My Very Left-of-Center College Professor Sister says, "Where opinions clash, freedom reigns!" Ours do and it does! Same here, I suppose... Most of the world won't understand that one, right Patito?

I do not believe that the benefit built on the tragedy of others can take a long time.

I do not believe in what I see on television. My friend has helped me to understand Americans. He lived there. As you said America is a big country. Thay are not all so smart. Smart people do not emphasize so it SEEMS that there in America are no smart people. You're the example that America does have smart people. Thank you patito.

Well, Much...I appreciate your confidence in my ability to explain things, but this is a complex and muddled situation..First, I understand and agree with what the caption of the photo is trying to say: our young men are dying in battle and it seems as if a lot of our kids here at home are oblivious to that fact, and more concerned about the death of a popular entertainer...that does seem to indicate a kind of cultural shallowness, if not impoverishment...on the other hand, we are a nation of over 300 million people, an extremely diverse and culturally complex society, and it would be a mistake to judge us all by what you see on television.... I would also point out that Jackson was an international superstar, and that young people all over the world are distracted by his death from matters that are probably more important and profound...Now, although I thought the invasion of Iraq was a bad idea and that it was handled very amateurishly by the Bush Team, I believe that it may be a legitimate use of military force to keep the Taliban from taking control of Afghanistan....young Americans in flag-draped coffins may well be coming home from there for a long time, and they should be appropriately honored...I also agree that Billink's comment makes a valid point ..Mr. Jackson was tried in a court of law..a jury heard the evidence and chose not to convict doubt the guy was extremely weird, but there is at least some room for doubt about the nature of his weirdness and whether or not he actually sexually molested children...we are all too eager to believe the worst about people, especially famous, rich, talented people...for those who are still open minded there's an interesting and insightful analysis of the possible nature of Jackson's sexuality in an article by J. Michael Baily, a psychologist, at

I agreed with your sentiment until I read your bigoted comment. I was never a Michael Jackson fan and I think we make way too big of a deal over celebrities and often overlook more important news to dote on them. However, since a US Court of Law could not convict Mr. Jackson of being a pedophile, I think it is very presumptuous of you to declare him as one. Admittedly, there is still doubt and controversy over MJ's behavior, but with your statement you leave no room for doubt. You are convinced that you know a truth that you could not possibly know and you are using this forum for your rumor-mongering. That is called self-righteous bigotry in my opinion.

I have an idea!!! Let's put ALL the pedophiles in uniform and send THEM to war to die for oil and then we can bring our brave lads home.
