Please do not encourage this type of hanling of hedgehogs. Hedgehogs have very shallow eye sockets and rather large eyes, holding them by the neck scruff as one might hold a cat increases their risk of a dangerous condition known as proptosis. This painful condition is when the eye releases from the socket, resulting in excruciating pain for your animal friend and blindness :-(. While hedgehogs do not rely on their already poor eyesight as a primary survival sense it is inhumane to expose them to this risk. Try scooping him/her up with too hands instead, with patience this should become safe and enjoyable for both you AND your prickly pal!
