Botanically, Angostura is correct. However. the term 'vegetable' is not a botanical term but a culinary one. All the parts of herbaceous plants eaten as food by humans, regardless of their botanical designation, may be properly refered to as vegetables. Vegetables may be leaves, stems, roots, bulbs, flowers, seeds, or ( as in the case of chilis ) fruits.

habaneros, and all chile peppers are fruit, not vegetables.

There is a YouTube video featuring these guys in the article of the link I left, eating this chilli for the first time. I'm not too sure if they were game to eat the chilli again though. As to guns, I wouldn't know the first thing about them and I don't intend to find out either. I do not like guns at all !

Jeeeze....just what the world needs, huh ? But subjectively, to the person eating the chilis, beyond a certain point those degrees of hotness probably wouldn't matter much... kinda like the difference between being shot between the eyes with a .38 or with a .45.....

Looks like the habaneros have some 'hot' competition from Australia......

I've witnessed a couple of jalapeno eating contests wasn't pretty, and habaneros are even hotter than jalapenos. You'd have to be either nuts or naive to eat one of them whole.

I watched some people on YouTube before, eating these things. It wasn't a very pleasant experience for them, that's for sure ... :(

Handle with care, literally. It's a good idea to wear rubber gloves when handling these, or at least wash your hands very thoroughly with warm soapy water afterwards . Also wise to wear protective lenses when slicing or chopping ...if one tiny drop of the juice squirts in your eye you will be a very unhappy person. But everyone should have the experience, just once in your life, of tasting a bite, a very tiny one, of habanero.
