The Gippsland Lakes are a network of lakes, marshes and lagoons in east Gippsland, Victoria, Australia, covering an area of about 600 km (wikipedia). The light is created by a chemical reaction called bioluminescence, which happens when a naturally-occurring micro-organism in the water is disturbed. (photographer Phi Hart)
