Many thanks, Patito. I'm so sorry to learn that your community suffered through a very bad flood also and I can understand that things wouldn't be back to normal as yet. I truly hope that it won't take long to get things back to normal there. It's a very, very slow process. I think the death toll from the Queensland floods is 15, but of course unfortunately, this will rise.. :( I asked the question of why this photo was downvoted. I asked that because as well as moments of beauty that we experience on this planet that we love to look at, there are also, tragic and poignant moments that we should respect, even when it's not happening to us at the time.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to all who've been hammered by this. Unless one has actually experienced this kind of thing it's difficult to understand how bloody awful it can be. Our community suffered a devasting flood over two years ago from which we are far from recovering. And of course those who die or loose their homes or livelihood never recover. The photo is probably being downvoted because there are some individuals here who have extremely narrow, constricted and rigid definitions of what consitututes a nature photograph. They want to see peaceful scenes of flowers and deer grazing in meadows and babbling brooks and song birds, and simply can't deal with the fact that dear old Mother Nature can be a violent, ruthless bitch who turns on us sometimes and kicks our butts.

When I say 'for quite some time, I mean for a little while at least until they can clean the areas up and that if it does rain, that it will not be anything like they have just had over the last few days...

I expect so too unfortunately, Markopolo. I just hope that the rain will hold off for quite some time as they clean Queensland up.

A very sad event, made even worse by its speed and ferocity. There will be further announcements of deaths soon.

I don't know why this photo is being downvoted. This is a very serious and tragic event. My sister lives in Brisbane and she is near these floods. I have been in touch with her and she is doing ok for now. It's going to take at least 2 years to rebuild Queensland. I know that there are other floods happening at the moment that are far worse than in Queensland, Brazil being one of them, but this flood being in Queeensland and with my sister being so close to these floods makes it all the more personal for me. Many thanks Markopolo for posting this photo....
