It's difficult to explain things to people from Missouri..they usually have to be shown ( no joke..it's the state motto.."show me"..)...as a result they are easily confused...here's an example: the largest city in the state of Missouri is called Kansas City..go figure that one out !

...and you need to study more. Cervus elaphus is elk or wapiti in the USA, generally red deer in Europe. Moose (US) and elk (Europe) are Alces alces. These are Cervus elaphus, and NOT caribou (Rangifer tarandus), which on the European side we call reindeer. Going "out in the county more often" has not helped you too much. ;-)

This is getting COMICAL! I'm trying to find pictures of ELK - I keep finding pictures of Moose that people think are elk, and in THIS case, here's a picture of CARIBOU that someone thinks are elk -- you people have got to get out in the country more often.
