This was taken at "Hopi House" at the Grand Canyon, and those are Hopi Indians (Hopituh Shi-nu-mu), whose reservation was about 100 miles away. Note their very distinctive dress and squash blossom necklaces. The Hopi reservation is completely surrounded by the Navajo Indian (Dineh) reservation. It is organized in matrilineal clans, where children become part of their mother's clan. The Hopi are known for their very complex religion, which is taught through the use of Kachina dolls, their elaborate and beautiful sand paintings, also often of a religious nature, and their silver smithing. The Hopi have the oldest continually occupied settlement in North America, dating to 1100 A.D. Amusingly, Einstein is wearing a Plains Indian headdress, which has no relationship to the Hopi.
