Gore won the popular vote, Bush was appointed President.

There are Americans who think that Bush was initially installed through a bloodless judicial coup d'etat. They also think he's a puppet figure, that Cheney runs the show. I say this so that folks from other countries don't think we're all idiots. Some of us watched Bush - who knew about 9/11 - sit there like a freaking moron when he was "informed" that it happened. In California, there are bumper stickers that celebrate the day that this moron leaves office. But the corporations shown in the picture - including Yahoo - will survive the regime change.

I hear you Jack. What you say is true. However that is not the point of this picture/image. It is pointing out the fact that corporations in America are controlling more and more of the peoples perception of reality each passing year. The effectiveness of our elections are becoming worthless because more and more of the politicians we vote into office are corporate shills. Our elected officials do not heed the demands and desires of their constituents. Many of our politicians only listen to corporations eagerly going after the quick buck.

The United States is a representative Republic, it is NOT a true Democracy. In a true Democracy, the citizens themselves vote directly for or against all laws, whereas in a representative Republic, the citizens vote for a candidate, who, if s/he wins a seat in the governing body (as in Parliament, Senate, Congress, etc.), votes to enact the laws which will affect the citizens.
