Thanks for that Hardhead. The shot is from high altitude and so difficult to determine what the images on the beach(?) are. If it is beach then is over a quarter of a mile. I'm comparing it to the sizes of the houses, in bottom right.

I don't believe that is snow, its the sand on the beach and in the shallows leading up to the beach. There appear to be a number of landing craft in the white area, as well as a sea wall just up from the road.

Thank you for the excellent edification Schumi. But what I really wanted to know is what is/was the location of the photo. What is the reason for the upper part, which is snow covered and the lower part which is free of snow. Some description is essential in order to understand the 'sense' of the picture.
