War is always the most desperate solution to reduce men and give women more choice of selection.
In general these soldier farewells speed up women welfare and the evolution, but the war itself balances it twice downwards. Divide by zero error!
Is there any other reason(s) for a war? (Greed, envy, hate, racism, religion, marketing economy (see e.g. Oil) and materialism) are only excuses for men to ape "Rich and the Powerfull" and /or fill their needs (read "Patriotism").

Elevator ? Hanger deck ? Redundant main propulsion and steering systems? Watertight integrity below decks ? This would be a good idea only in the most desperate of circumstances.
