"Cloud Gate" is a public sculpture of Anish Kapoor in Millennium Park located in the city of Chicago. The sculpture takes the form of an ellipse, and its appearance similar to a vegetable led it to be dubbed "The Bean" ( "The Bean"). It is composed of 168 slabs of highly polished stainless steel, has about 10 meters high, 13 wide and 20 long, weighing 110 tonnes. In the distance, the sculpture could be confused with a giant drop of mercury, while up close its highly reflective surface captures and transforms the rows of buildings, the urban landscape of the city center and even the passersby in a new vision wonderfully distorted. The artist, Anish Kapoor, has referred to the sculpture as "a gateway to Chicago, a poetic idea of the city to which it reflects."
